Updated: May 7, 2023

Greetings from ATHEENAPANDIAN Private Limited

This is the article about NEW INNOVATIONS IN CANCER TREATMENT by Ms. SAMIPRIYA, from ATHEENAPANDIAN PVT LTD

Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Therapy

Recent Therapeutic Technique for Cancer(Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy)

Introduction of CART:

Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy is used in liquid cancer treatment. Mainly to treat blood cancer. This is the type of immune therapy that uses immune cells, such as genetically modified T-cells, in a specific laboratory to find the cancer cells and kill them more effectively.

Who needs CART?

  1. Lymphomas

  2. Leukoma

  3. Multiple Myeloma

Who did this Process?

Genetic engineers perform this genetic modification process in the laboratory.

It is done by 3-stage infusion like Day 1, Day 3, and Day 6 after which it is monitored for 28 days.

What is the immune therapy of CART?

Our body has immune cells called B-cells and T-cells. These two immune cells fight against the foreign body, but these two cells cannot fight with cancer cells they modified T-cells with the help of Chimeric Antigen Receptors.

Blood is received from the patient’s body, then T-cells are separated by using of centrifugation process.

After the separation chimeric antigen is added to the T-cell, which is left to proliferate in culture medium for 28 days.

The modified CAR T-cell is injected into the patient’s body as a blood transfusion, and the cancer cells are then killed by the CAR T –cell.

The Duration of Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy is 3 months.

When does CART get Approved?

In August 2017, the US FDA(Food Drug Administration) approved CAR T-cell therapy clinical trials, which cured a child with leukemia.

What is the Cost of CART–cell therapy?

In the US  from 4 crores to 8 crores.

If the CART will be developed in India, the treatment from 20 to 30 lakh.

How does CART differ from Chemotherapy?

After chemotherapy, cancer cells can come back and cause some side effects, but CART does not cause any side effects and it does not come back.

That's all about one of the recent innovations in Oncology, particularly for the treatment.

Thank You

With Best Regadrs
